Hello Moraine and Louise

What do three girls in their early twenties do on an early brisk Wednesday morning in the middle of July? Well, in this case leave the house before 3 am and drive from Calgary for over two hours to watch the sunrise at Moraine Lake. Truly an adventure I'll never forget.

It all started just over two weeks ago, when my sister Monica and myself decided to fly out to Calgary to visit our relatives. Conveniently, we had timed the trip around the Calgary Stampede so we could join in the festivities. But, like everything there's only so much you can do until you're ready to branch out from cowboy boots and hats.

We knew we wanted to head out to Banff to explore for at least a day. That's when my cousin Madison, had a slightly ambitious, yet very compelling idea for our next adventure. Wake up after 1 am, so we can get ready, leave the house before 3 am, and drive two hours to Moraine Lake to catch the sunrise. A real enthusiastic idea for three girls who a) love their sleep, and b) well, love their sleep. But it didn't take much convincing after my aunt and uncle had a little fun poking at us with doubt.

So the next morning, while most people awake were probably on their way home from Stampede, my body woke me up at 1 am cueing the start to our trip. By 2:50 am Monica, Madison, and myself were packed, with three outfit changes (the inner blogger in me was calculating all the photo-ops), a bag full of snacks, and a playlist fit for the occasion.

The ride consisted of a couple scary stories I don't care to repeat and definitely didn't enjoy, a karaoke sing-a-long, and endless laughs. By 5 am we were winding down the scenic road to Moraine Lake. We climbed up the side of a rock, and found ourselves faced with the most breathtaking view. The picturesque turquoise lake, framed by towering mountains, speckled with evergreens was magical. And as the sun rose, the turquoise turned brighter and the mountains sparkled. We spent about an hour there taking photos and just soaking in the whole thing. Then we hopped back into the car and headed over to Lake Louise.

I'd never been to Lake Louise before either, and I heard it was another beautiful view. But when we strolled down to the lake, instead of clear view like at Moraine Lake, the sky was blanketed in fog giving it an eerie and stunning appearance. Again, we took in the view and snapped a couple photos before making our way to Banff for the rest of the trip.

What can I say? It was definitely worth it, a trip if you ever have the opportunity to do, you have to.

Here's some photos from our trip.

Stay tuned for the next posts from our time walking around Banff, and going for afternoon tea at the Banff Springs hotel.

Two Years of The Trendy Files

Two years. It's crazy to think that two years ago I started this blog, and now two years later I'm still doing it. I remember the day I decided to finally start The Trendy Files. Prior to that I had been blogging for school about everything and anything, it was okay, but I wasn't passionate about it. I knew what I really wanted my blog to be, but at the time I just wasn't ready to take the leap. Looking back now, I'm so happy I did. My little blog has given me so many opportunities that I never thought I'd have. Not only have been able to work with some great brands, but I've meet some many amazing people online and in person because of it.

So why not take a stroll through memory lane?

Looking back at some of my favourite posts is bringing back so many amazing memories. I just want to send a shout to everyone who's somehow helped me out or contributed to my blog. I honestly appreciate it so much (and hopefully you don't get too annoyed with me when I ask you to be my photographer)! But in all seriousness, I couldn't do it without the help I get. So thank you.

Five Staple Bag Styles

First off I'd like to wish all my fellow Canadians a wonderful Canada Day. It's a special birthday for Canada this year, the big 1-5-0! And to my American friend happy (early) Fourth of July! Now lets get to the post.

Anyone who knows me knows I'm a sucker for a bag. I love collecting different styles, sizes and coloured handbags. So today, I've rounded up my top five staple styles that every bag lover needs to have in their collection.

1. Working Tote
This is the bag I use from 9-5, Monday to Friday. What I love about using a tote bag for work is that it literally carries so much, and it's not like I have to walk around with it on my arm all day. The tote from Michael Kors is a standard and I also love that it has a laptop sleeve in the centre.

How to style: Keep it classic, a blazer and pencil skirt will complete this smart look.

2. Cross-Body
This little number from Aldo is my go-to shopping purse. I'm a big fan of using cross-body bags when needing to wear it all day and the smaller size of this is perfect for the essentials: my wallet, keys, and phone.

How to style: Pair this bag with a long maxi dress and jean jacket for a casual and comfortable look.

3. Statement Piece
When it comes to a conversation piece this lace-like detailed bag is the perfect starter. I can't even count the number of times I've received compliments on this bag. And the best part it was only $40 from Call it Spring.

How to style: Denim jeans, plain off-the-shoulder top, and some cute sandals. Let the bag do the talking!

4. Evening
Finding the perfect clutch can sometime be a challenge. What I love about this one from Henri Bendel is that I can totally dress it up or down, which makes it a great investment bag.

How to style: A pretty black cocktail dress and some ankle strapped heels will compliment this clutch.

5. Structured
I think it's key to have a great structured bag in your collection. This Michael Kors one is my newest handbag, and I'm obsessed with the fact it's ALL rose gold (including the hardware).

How to style: Leather pants, a graphic tee, and some heeled booties will edge up this structured purse.

Let me know what your favourite style bag is in the comments below!
